October 21, 2010 The JAPAN RAIL PASS can now be used for the Tokyo monorail.
What are Tokaido, Sanyo and Kyushu Shinkansen
Rail service on the Tohoku, Akita, and Yamagata Shinkansen lines as well as on regular lines throughout the Tohoku region has been partially suspended due to the effects of the earthquake that struck the area on March 11, 2011. These partial suspention include the cessation of all service on sections of damaged track as well as the cancellation of individual trains.
